How To Organize Your Website Content

Getting relevant, high-quality content is only the first step to advertising your local business. A company Boostability reviews your site from a customer point of view, and can provide excellent content for your website, but it is up to you to organize it properly. Your website content can include everything from your about page to lists of articles and your company blog. To make it easier for others to find the information they are looking for, it should be well organized. Try to look at your website as if you have just visited it for the first time. Navigate through the different links and sections, and decide where the improvements should be made to organize it more effectively.

Organize Your Design

The first way to organize website content is to consider how the website itself is laid out. To make it user-friendly and accessible, include things like clearly-marked sidebar links, a neutral background, easy-to-read fonts, and pages organized by their keywords or topics. This way when someone visits your website, they can easily navigate it to find more content that is useful to them. It also keeps users on your website for longer periods of time.

Format Content

Changing the formatting is another way to organize content for easy browsing. If you have five paragraphs that are not broken up, they will be harder to read. Instead of formatting content like an essay, add some interest in the form of larger fonts, boldface, and italics. Within the content, use subheadings that are descriptive and also include some keywords for SEO purposes. If you can fit in bullet lists or numbered lists, these are also eye-catching.  If you're going for a "Top" or "Best" type of article or blog post, numbering each section and bolding the name of the section works perfectly.

Use Shorter Paragraphs

In the same vein, it is hard to read content when paragraphs are excessively long. Instead, keep the paragraphs short and no longer than 5-6 sentences. Again, think about the content you like to read and what size of paragraphs you prefer to see. This is usually a good indication of what you should use for your own content organization.

Don't Rely on Search Boxes

When it comes to how your content is organized on your website, don't just provide a search box and expect users to fend for themselves. It should be easy for them to find what they need with various options. Have links to content and keyword categories on the sidebar of your site, more pages on the top of your site to browse through, and then include a search box for users who prefer this method of finding content.

Utilize Categories

If your content is on a blog, categories are your best friend. Nobody wants to spend hours looking through content that may not even be useful to them. Have different posts entered into separate categories and tagged accordingly. By cleanly organizing your blog, users are able to find blog posts in the categories they are interested in.
