What do you need to know about social media marketing for small businesses? If your company is just getting off the ground, you may not have a social media presence. Before you create new accounts or start posting pictures, take a look at the whys, whats, and hows of marketing your small business online.
Why Does Your Business Need A Social Media Presence?
According to the Pew Research Center, seventy-two percent of Americans use social media. With almost three-fourths of people in the U.S. using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter, and more, social media has become an easy way to connect with potential customers and contact small business clientele.
Not only can social media help you to effectively reach a wider customer base, increasing your profits and building your business, but these online platforms and apps also have other benefits for your company. Social media allows you to showcase products, spotlight your services or employees, and can give would-be customers a concrete idea (via photos or videos) of what to expect from your business.
A social media-connected business also shows your customers or clients that you are a tech-savvy modern company. While there's certainly no requirement to have social media accounts, failure to post on at least one platform may make your small business look like a relic.
What Types of Social Media Platforms Should You Use?
Even though social media can help you to market your small business, you don't need to start accounts or post on every available platform. If you're new to social media use, start small and choose one easy-to-use site or app.
To best showcase your business, choose a platform (or platforms) that best matches your marketing needs and the type of products or services you offer. Companies that sell products may want to choose a photo-friendly option, such as Instagram. Small businesses that offer more complex services may need a video-centered platform (such as Tik Tok) or a more general option (such as Facebook) that allows you to post descriptions/comments, photos, videos, or a mix of visual and written content.
Along with choosing the best platform to showcase your business, you also need to consider who your customers are and which types of social media they use most. Young adults ages 18 through 29 are slightly more likely to use Instagram (71 percent) than Facebook (70 percent), according to the Pew Research Center. But adults ages 30 through 49 prefer Facebook (77 percent) over Instagram (48 percent).
How Should You Use Social Media?
If you're not well-versed in these platforms, start with a social media marketer. These professionals have the knowledge and experience necessary to take your small business to the next level. Choose a marketing company that works within your industry and knows your target demographic well.Share

They were incredible to work with, really nice, and took care of all of my online marketing needs. Within about three weeks, our blog started getting much, much more traffic.
